EMS Workforce Recruitment & Retention Program

Overview

 

To support the field of emergency medical services (EMS), the Texas Legislature is providing $21.7 million to distribute towards funding EMS education and retention. Scholarships are provided by DSHS to approved EMS education programs or licensed EMS providers.

Scholarships are available based on documented need, with special attention given to rural and underserved areas within Texas. Courses can be in-person, online, or hybrid.

Top Three Goals 

 

  Increase personnel actively working on an ambulance

  Retain currently certified personnel

  Reduce the burden in rural/frontier and underserved areas

 

Criteria Definitions

 

Rural (Non-Metropolitan)

A county or area with less than 50,000 in population.

 

Underserved

An area in an Urban (Metropolitan) county with less than 50,000 in population where the minimum level of EMS care does not exist.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS        
  • At least 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Sponsoring Agency
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS        
  • DSHS Licensed Agency
  • RAC Participation
