Dr. Erwin R. Thal
The North Central Texas Trauma Regional Advisory Council (NCTTRAC) has recognized a great loss as we learned of the passing of Dr. Erwin R. Thal. Dr. Thal was a founding father of NCTTRAC and a principal architect of its establishment as a Texas Non-Profit Corporation in April of 1994. He was an incredibly active trauma system advocate, serving on numerous boards relating to trauma as well as the first Chair of NCTTRAC’s Board of Directors.
Dr. Thal lived his life serving others. His contributions to this region, Texas and the United States included being a surgeon at Parkland, a Flight Medical Officer (Flight Surgeon) in the United States Air Force, a teacher, and an honorary Fire Chief. His achievements and contributions to the trauma community are countless. Dr. Thal was also a published author and dedicated family man.
Dr. Erwin Thal will be dearly missed by many. His legacy will not be forgotten.
Memorials may be made to the Dallas Chapter of the American Red Cross, UT Southwestern Department of Surgery Division of Trauma, or The Ohio State University-School of Medicine. Online condolences and funeral information can be found at www.Sparkman-Hillcrest.com. NCTTRAC is sending a donation to the UT Southwestern Department of Surgery Division of Trauma in honor of Dr. Erwin R. Thal.
